Summary:
The position is located within the Office of Communications and reports to the Director of Communications. Located within the Office of the Inspector General, the Office of Communications works to ensure that all communications are accurate, timely, and in furtherance of the mission of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. OC is the central coordination point for all TIGTA communications and is responsible for developing and executing programs to effectively communicate information about TIGTA’s mission and activities to internal and external stakeholders. The Office’s vision statement is to ensure that TIGTA communicates with gravitas, excellence, and professionalism, and most importantly, with one voice.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

- Writing, editing and managing written materials for use in communicating information about the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) and its activities to a variety of internal audiences, including TIGTA executives and other employees, and external audiences, including the media, Congress, and other external stakeholders, as well as the general public.
- Conduct research to develop authoritative information on the programs, polices, and functions of the agency and agency programs; and related issues and practices.
- Ensure that work products meet the appropriate techniques, methodologies, terminology, and guidelines provided by the TIGTA Writing and Style Guide, TIGTA Executive Secretariat, Government Printing Office (GPO) and Associated Press (AP) Style Manuals by reviewing and editing these documents for proper format, grammar, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and correct use of vocabulary.
- Verify that each product does not contain information that is subject to Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code and the Privacy Act.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Sharepoint, Adobe Acrobat, WebEx collaboration tools, social media platforms, Microsoft Publisher, In-Design or PageMaker.

    Qualifications:
    You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. 

    Specialized experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - planning, designing, developing, and disseminating public affairs information and materials to inform and educate the public about Agency/Organization programs.

    For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    - doing research and developing materials for media campaigns, including press releases. OR

    Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR

    Combination of education and experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully.
