    As a Motor Vehicle Operator in the Facility Management Branch, you will:

  • Operate one or more types of vehicles such as mail van, sedans, shuttle vans, and buses.

  • Load and unload vehicles, and sees that vehicles are loaded properly. 

  • Perform a daily preventive maintenance check, which includes monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters, checking air pressure, etc., to ensure proper care/maintenance and safety of vehicles prior to use. 

  • Ensure vehicles are clean, properly stored, and used in compliance with regulations.

  • Provide protection and safeguards for the Under Secretary, senior management, and all passengers, especially during irregular work hours and areas of high crime. 

  • Demonstrate proper work methods, working along with other workers, setting the pace, ensuring safety rules are followed, performing on-the-job training for other employees and other support services activities such as scheduling forklift operations while providing receiving and warehouse coverage. 

  • Serve as a dispatcher, and routinely acts in the absence of the supervisor and/or team leader in performing a variety of fleet management and warehousing activities such as, dispatching vehicles, coordinating and developing schedules, tracking and/or maintaining mileage and gasoline consumption records, coordinating leave, distributing and coordinating work, reviewing/maintaining vehicle reports, receiving, moving and storing furniture/equipment and supplies, etc.

  • Observe all safety rules, regulations, and directives applicable to the work assignment.

  • Monitor and track gasoline and services obtained via fleet credit card.

  • Assist in the transportation, delivery, loading, unloading, uncrating and unpacking of office furniture, supplies, mail, equipment and other miscellaneous government property and materials. 

  • Serve as a Warehouse Worker with responsibility for the day-to-day operations of warehousing, receiving, and inventory, as well as various administrative functions.

    Minimum Qualification Requirement: 

    In order to be found minimally qualified for this position, applicants must have demonstrated experience in having routinely performed the duties of a Heavy Vehicle (Van/Bus) operator as listed below,for more than one year without more than normal supervision, or have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as listed below without more than normal supervision.

    • Operating the vehicle over predetermined routes to arrive at and depart from pick-up and discharge points at scheduled times; on long and short runs, over public roads and at highway speeds.

    • Working independently, handling the controls for starting, stopping backing, shifting while driving the vehicle; judging overhead and side clearances, turning radius, and braking distance from the preceding vehicle.

    • Independently assisting with loading, unloading, and overseeing the security of passengers.

    • Understand and applying safely rules and State/local rules and regulations for bus operation; using defensive driving techniques.

    • Performing routine, general maintenance and cleaning of Van/buses. 

    • Working in a Van/Bus office; writing reports, setting schedules, and charting routes.

    • Scheduling maintenance and repairs; recommending acquisition of new equipment.
