The Office of Financial Research (OFR or Office) is a new organization established by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in the Treasury Department to provide data and analysis to the Financial Stability Oversight Council (the Council) and its member agencies, improve the quality and transparency of financial information, conduct and sponsor research related to financial stability, and promote best practices in risk management.

The Office of Financial Research is recruiting to fill a key IT Specialist position. This position is in a small office with top staff members who work on a wide array of interesting subjects.     Duties

    As an IT Specialist (DATAMGT)(Senior Database Administrator), you will:



    • Oversee and manage a project team of Information Technology Specialists who serve as technical experts and subject-matter specialists responsible for projects involving highly technical and complex database management and administration projects.

    • Administer numerous servers and database systems and Database Management Systems.

    • Employ, maintain, and manage a database that includes planning, developing, designing, coding, testing and maintaining applications that interface with the data base.

    • Develop, modify, and amend data in systems using SQL commands, hand-editing, and bulk import.

    • Oversee the scheduling of data base projects, database and transaction log backups, notification, and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites.

    For this position individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. In addition to the above, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

    OR-06: An applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the (BAND 5C) (GS-13 equivalent) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled which has equipped the candidate with particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.   Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.  


    Examples of specialized experience include: hands-on experience performing data management projects in a data warehousing environment; comprehensive knowledge of (1) database design and management, (2) meta data, and (3) data architecture/ data modeling (4) data base optimization (5) SQL (6) ETL (7) data management and integration tools;  and serving as an advisor to senior management officials.


    Although not required, the most qualified candidates will have experience designing and supporting data stores that operate on parallel computing platforms and experience with hadoop and other “big data” technologies. 


    The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
