To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the requirements below.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements (positive education/experience requirement) above, you must also have the following:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience which demonstrates the ability to independently lead research and social science projects requiring advanced mathematical and statistical knowledge pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is further demonstrated by assignments where the applicant independently managed high-level, complex studies using well-established methods for identifying the probable causes of statistical variances and drafting recommendations for resolving or mitigating such variances. The resolution of identified areas includes communicating findings through written and oral methods to audiences across multiple grades and levels of responsibility. Prior work assignments would generally include using specialized methodologies (e.g., applied mathematics, statistics, demography, or econometrics) to appropriately address varied quantitative and qualitative challenges by developing computerized mathematical models, regression models or applied demographic projections.

To be basically qualified for a Statistician position, you must meet the basic requirement (positive education requirement) below:
A Bachelor's degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.
