For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility at the GS-11 level in the Federal service or equivalent, which have equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes experience performing Database Management System (DBMS) Administration work that involves serving as a member of a team responsible for planning and coordinating the installation, testing schedules, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Database Management Software systems, while interpreting regulations on own initiative, in order to ensure availability and functionality of hardware and operating systems.

Examples of such experience could include:
- Experience administering, monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting, implementing backup and recovery procedures for a database management system in a distributed environment as a database administrator; OR
- Installing new and upgrading or patching existing Database Management System Software; OR
- Updating/adding new configurations to ensure highly available, secure and necessary to respond to customer requirements;

AND

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have proficiency in each of the four competencies listed below.
- Attention to Detail, such as supporting metrics collection and reporting in conjunction with service level monitoring.
- Customer Service, such as providing 24x7 support for Tier 2 Hosting service on Tier 1 platforms.
- Oral Communication, such as coordinating with the customer to ensure the acceptance environment is adequate for testing.
- Problem Solving, such as providing incident / problem support for distributed database server technologies.
