2 How do you meet the requirements for an Engineering position? Answer to this question is required
  • Degree -- bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET).
  • Degree -- included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
  • Professional registration or license -- current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Written test -- evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

  • Substantial record of experience, achievement, and/or publications that demonstrates eminence in this professional/scientific field.

You must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower band or level equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal Service, or comparable private or public sector experience. Specialized experience is defined as experience developing and implementing quantitative and qualitative advanced analytics research designs and methods (i.e. development of advanced analytical techniques and innovate next generation methods and/or tools with emerging technologies in support of current and future audits (financial and performance), investigations, business operations, and evaluations for GAO’s mission or support teams on problems such as fraud detection, improper payments, visualization of large data sets, and/or estimation of duplication, overlap, or fragmentation in federal programs); and using these approaches to effectively perform advanced analytics pilots/experiments and related applied research.
