For the GS-5; You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service that is directly related to the position, which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities. Specialized experience is performing clerical duties and following procedures, examples of such experience could include:
-Utilizing computer systems to enter data of records and preparing reports; OR
-Reviewing files or documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with guidelines.

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
