Duties

The incumbent will support the NIST program in Cellular Measurements and Optical Imaging by conducting research to develop a measurement methodology to characterize dynamic biomarkers in living cells; they research will involve the use of large-field-of-view optical imaging, microfabrication of cell carrier substrates and the use of model cellular systems that mimic real analytical paradigms in the generation of cellular therapies.  In particular, the job will require the development of a chimeric antigen receptor system in T-cells (CAR-T) that target particular tumor cells and the development of appropriate imaging systems to monitor this process.   Optical imaging techniques can include several different modes of imaging including quantitative phase, fluorescence and transmission methods.  The job will also include the development of image analysis tools that are able to identify CAR-T cells and target cells, and interfacing with advanced image analysis pipeline tools that are currently available.  The incumbent will also involve interfacing with collaborators that provide critical guidance on the research direction; conduct research to apply these tools to biomanufacturing, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine measurement challenges.

    Qualifications:

    Basic Requirements



    1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    1. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.


    IN ADDITION:  To qualify, applicant must have one year of specialize experience  equivalent to at least the GS-09 level (or ZP-II at NIST).  Specialized experience is defined as experience in automated optical microscopy imaging systems, live cellular imaging, cellular phenotyping.

    Master's or equivalent graduate degree
